The OBBS was back in action on Saturday, June 12th, as for the 3rd year in a row we “presented and promoted” the blues at The Triple “A” Festival in Oakland, Florida. The festival is a celebration of African American Arts and event coordinator Orine Boyd was kind enough to invite us back again this year. In accordance with our efforts to expand our Blues In The Schools (B.I.T.S.) program, Board member Reno Mussatto spoke about the program, it’s purpose and goals, how to request a B.I.T. S. presentation and then introduced the Plan B Band: John Thomas – Keyboard, Josh Dakel – Drums, Jim Gates - Bass, Steve Dakel –Lead Guitar and Sean Zmeskal – Vocals, who presented an hour’s worth of great blues and entertained and educated the crowd. Board members Jan Dakel and Herb Ransburg manned the OBBS booth during the festival, with the help of members Onzie Fruster, Steve Dakel and others, selling merchandise and generally representing our organization. A good number of people visited the booth and were very interested in what is happening with blues music in the Orlando Area. A fair number of individuals signed up for emails from the OBBS of upcoming events and jams in the area and several expressed interest in becoming members. The B.I.T.S. program was a hot topic and we made several contacts that could potentially prove strategic in the advancement of blues education and appreciation in our community. It was a great day and the OBBS was present to spread the word of the Blues in Central Florida. |
